How your money makes a difference
Encouraging change is not an easy process. We work directly with medical professionals in Gambia to spread knowledge about women's hygiene, infectious diseases and FGM/C. We aim to stop the spread of misinformation, dispel bad cultural practices and invalidate the "religious" traditions which excuse the mistreatment of women and girls.

To accomplish this we hold regular events in the Gambia which give people the information they need to lead healthy lives. We understand, that the only sustainable way to make change is through education so communities regulate themselves. Events include community seminars, discussions and presentations over TV and radio. Experienced professionals will provide support to women/girls in need when visiting communities. They will answer questions and provide much needed advice.

We have already conducted several community seminars and discussion events in the Gambia. Due to lack of equipment and infrastructure, these events are limited to only verbal presentations and discussions. We would like to develop these events further and involve diagrams, videos and other presentation methods to show communities the effects of FGM/C, GBV and and best hygiene practices. The gallery below shows some the events already held by the Foundation in the Gambia.
Our Future Roadmap
In the near future, we want to broaden our capabilities and expand our teams to accomplish change easier and faster. We are aiming to develop the Foundation in 3 key areas:

Regular
Events
We want to host regular events. Events can be community focused or time for individual women/girls to receive help from health experts.

Seminars, bantaba, newspaper stories, radio events, TV screenings, drama groups and more.
Purchasing
Equipment
We want to purchase equipment to support those in need and help spread our message.

Medical equipment, posters, projectors, transport, contraceptives, cameras, flyers, information pamphlets, worksheets and office equipment.
Hiring
Personnel
We want to expand our number of health/hygiene experts in the Gambia and create local help-centers for women and girls. Medical professionals in Gambia are rare, often with local hospitals having no dedicated doctors or hygiene/health experts.
Creating
Hospitals
We aim to create a new maternal hospital in the Gambia. Maternal hospitals are in short supply and deaths occurring from childbirth are well above the European average.

We are working with our partner group, Gambiagrupperna, to create long lasting change.

An example of where these four areas combine, is the need for ultrasound scanning devices in the Gambia. Knowing and preparing for issues during pregnancy is something taken for granted in Sweden. In the Gambia being pregnant comes with a lot of uncertainty and risks. We'd like to hold open day events where pregnant women can receive an ultrasound scan to check their baby's health.
To accomplish this we need to purchase ultrasound scanners, hire or train professionals to operate the equipment and organize events at local community centers. This makes holding these events difficult to organize and costly. This is why we are currently focusing on educational events and in the future expand into providing healthcare services and distributing hygiene products such as tampons.

Below is our 3 year plan showing how we plan to evolve as a charity. The plan will adapt as we partner with organisations and as we grow as a charity.

Year 1
Education events will be our primary focus in our first year of operation.
Our aim is to increase our outreach and trust with local communities. We want to find the most effective way of spreading our message.
Year 2
In year two, we will focus on growing by setting up regional support centers and training health professionals.
Our aim is for women in major cities to have somewhere to turn to for advice/support.
Year 3
By year three, we hope to begin purchasing products and equipment.
Our aim is to give access to medical devices (such as ultrasound scanners) and to distribute free hygiene and contraceptive products.
Beyond
After three years of operation, we will expand the use of our equipment and provide training for medical staff.

Our aim is to assist local hospitals with women's reproductive issues and end the practice of FGM/C.
